Saw my oncologist today and he had the results of the MRI from Tues. Unfortunately there were a couple of additional spots that presented on my spine. He said that they were very small but were possible metastaces. Prior to going on Gleevec I had lesions on my spine so what we need to hope for are that this is disease that has been there all along and has just not shown up on the PET/ CT before. It’s been years since I’ve had an MRI. they are scheduling a Needle biopsy for next week. They will put me in a CT machine and using the images guide a needle into the pelvic tumor and pull out some cells for a pathologist to look at. Dr. Kauh will see me a week after the biopsy with the results. We spoke about surgery. I was so afraid that he would say that this tumor was inoperable because of all of the other surgeries and the amount of scar tissue etc. however he says that it will be very difficult but we discussed some possible surgical oncologists who could perform the surgery. Peggy asked him if it could possibly be an infection or something like that and he said no. He said that if it is GIST (my original tumor) that there are still a few drugs that I could try. So, that’s where we are…It will be at least another week of worrying. Keep me in your thoughts and prayers. Love, Pat
