hi

I just got a call from Dr. Small, who is the radiologist who performed the RFA. Dr. Staley forwarded my email to him and told him to respond to me. Basically he said that he was happy with the placement of the probe in the area that had active tumor but has looked at the CT scan that I had taken after the procedure and can see that there was probably trauma to the nerves in the area. Bottom line is they do not know whether the nerve damage is permanent or temporary. They have not done enough of these RFA’s in the area that I had it done to have any definitive answers. He hopes that in the weeks to come that the nerves will be better but no guarantees. He apologised for not having introduced himself to me before the procedure or for not visiting me after. I then got an email from Dr. Kauh, who is my regular oncologist, who said that he hopes too that the nerve damage is temporary but wants to put me on some meds to help with the pain.He and Dr. Staley, my surgical oncologist, are going to look at the CT tonight together and he will let me know what he thinks. Dr. Small said that they won’t know if they got all of the active tumor until my next PET scan when they can look to see if there are any “hot spots” left. So, for now, I remain, your friend with “Depends”. Say prayers. Thanks, Pat
